I last watched this five years ago during my first semester of college when Obama was still president. It was a simpler time. I mention Obama because I have unfortunately been thinking about the election a lot lately and since this takes place on the days before, during and after Nixon was first elected. I always thought it was a perfect time to set a movie and I want to steal that idea for something in the future. Paul Simon's spare score highlights the melancholy and sadness in Warren Beatty's character's life. You can sleep with all the women in the world but it doesn't mean a thing if you can't love somebody. It's not often you hear an actual Beatles song in a movie and this movie has two, Sgt. Pepper's and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds!
