Best Picture Nominee 5: Nomadland
Best Director (Chloe Zhao)
Best Actress (Frances McDormand)
Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Film Editing
My Best Picture Nominee Review Series continues with Nomadland. If you don’t know, Nomadland is my prediction to win Best Picture at the Oscars this year. Nomadland is yet again another amazing Best Picture nominee so let’s get into the review.
This is the Best Directed film of last year. Chloe Zhao needs to win Best Director.
The Cinematography was the best of last year.
Frances McDormand is fantastic as Fern. I don’t think she is my personal pick to win but I wouldn’t be mad if she won.
It was really nice that there were Actual Nomads in the film.
Despite the characters having to do gross things like pooping in buckets, the film makes it look like they enjoy this life because there is no final goodbye. Instead of saying Goodbye, they just say, “See you down the road.”
David Strathairn was not memorable here despite not being bad in the film.
The Script is not as great as some of the other scripts we got last year.
It’s not a film I see myself rewatching.
Overall: Nomadland is not as amazing as other Best Picture nominees this year but it is still a fantastic movie. While not being rewatchable, I can respect this film completely and I won’t be mad if it wins Best Picture. I would recommend you check out this one.
