Burning

Burning

What a triumph.

So slow, and so perfect.

A thrilling meditation on lies, uncertainty and spinelessness.

The way the story unfolds, like a collage of doubts and what-ifs, is masterful.

The best scene of 2018 is a conversation had in a front garden that isn't even lit all that well. I was ready to fall out of my chair.

Will definitely return to this one soon. Felt it had a lot to say about the current cultural moment (in Korea and beyond) with regard to misinformation and general hopelessness.

The way shots are held, carried out to their zenith and slashed. Some of these camera moves are so slow, they're borderline subconscious.

A masterpiece of silent and subdued horror.
