I'm not a musical or musical theatre fan and I'm not familiar with johnathon larson and have never seen rent but I thought this was terrific. Andrew garfield was brilliant, his singing was delightful and he gave a energetic, magnetic performance. The songs were catchy and it was a good fusion of reality and fantasy. The storytelling was involving and the plot about a struggling writer creating his first musical was very strong. The tine period that the film was set in, which was the beginning of the 90s was well realised. For me this was surprisingly enjoyable and uplifting.
