Midsommar ★★★★

The thing I loved most about the movie is the bright, idyllic and fairytale-like setting, enhanced by the perfect ultra-saturated cinematography and the direction that prefers wide spaces and long movements, creating so a fascinating contrast with the increasingly disturbing and at times truculent plot. The pace is slow but in my opinion engaging and I haven’t felt the weight of the over two hours viewing, but I would’ve appreciated that the village’s customs and the meaning of the life-death cycle’s cathartic renewal (widespread in "pagan" cults) were better investigated, perhaps at the expense of the characters’ characterization, which is in any case rather superficial.
