Ethan Colburn’s review published on Letterboxd:
I feel like I’ve known this movie for years.
It’s immersive, and a 70s hangout movie that slips easily into the Boogie Nights, Almost Famous, and Dazed & Confused category, it feels like i must have seen it. Yet it’s characters feel fresh and fascinating. I could watch this 10 times and still discover things about Alana and Gary.
I’ve been sitting on this for a couple days not knowing what to write. In some ways I don’t know what makes it so magical. It’s no secret I love narratives involving forbidden love, but I think that’s a symptom of loving chemistry that is so strong it’s willing to overcome the societal barriers that stand in its way.
The term “instant classic” gets thrown around a lot, but I don’t remember the last time I’ve felt it to be so applicable. I can’t describe the plot line in 2 sentences but I can give you 20 scenes that made me laugh, cringe, or cry.
It’s incredibly special, and it’s here to stay.
