Okay, this was way more cute than I expected it to be.
As an American citizen, I had genuinely never heard of Eurovision before this movie came about. It feels like Will Ferrell and his co-writer Andrew Steele did a fair amount of research to bring it to life. Even though I'm not an Icelandic citizen and have never visited the country, there's a heartwarming sense of pride for them to be shown as the heroes of a relatively low-stakes story.
It runs way too long for its own good and there are several jokes that just fall flat on their face. But the songs all slap and I could easily see Netflix pushing "Húsavík" for Best Original Song this year. I also love how they even used songs by the band Sigur Rós, who I've been a fan of for quite some time.
And Dan Stevens and Rachel McAdams stole the show, full stop. It's not even something up for debate. They're both underrated comic geniuses, in my opinion.
