Spider-Man: Far From Home

Spider-Man: Far From Home ★★★½

I thoroughly enjoyed the latest Tom Holland outing as Spider-Man. The second half devolves a bit into the usual CGI smashy-smashy that bogs down so many MCU films and, as before, I could have used a lot less Tony Stark/Happy Hogan, but Far From Home is a character-based comedy first and foremost, and even during the battle scenes never stops servicing its strong supporting cast, especially the teen drama around Peter. And Jake Gyllenhaal is strong as Quentin Beck, selling both sides of his character with panache. It's fun, it's breezy, it's what I want out of a summer superhero spectacular.

And for anyone still bitching about the casting of Zendaya as MJ, just get over yourselves. I love Marvel Comics Mary Jane. She's super fun. Zendaya's MJ is a totally different character, unrelated in any way other than initials and being a love interest for Peter. But she's fucking great too. So deal with it.
