👍Visual poetry that tackled themes of love, passion, dreams, & virtues through splendid animation! The shaky pacing & structure did dilute both the love story & engineering accomplishments, but were painted with such care that they were captivating nonetheless. The gentle, classical score deserves praise for aiding in that.

👍Remains one of the best & most touching underdog stories ever put to film! Utilized the high school & sports tropes to its advantage, infusing heart & humor to keep things lively. I don't know what's more astounding: Macchio's inherent charisma or that he convincingly played a teenager whilst in his early twenties.

👍 A visceral, satirical assault on society, religion, sexuality, class warfare, & common decency, as only Godard can do! Even the editing & score are an assault, as is the fourth wall-breaking script. One doesn't need to agree with the warped worldview in order to be captivated by the deconstruction of it (and filmmaking itself). Exhausting, yet always beguiling.

👍A soul-crushing depiction of war! The 1.37:1 aspect ratio gives the feeling of being boxed in; the cinematography juxtaposing the grim horror of reality against the typical beauty of nature. The sound mixing implements sudden urgency amidst seeming tranquility. The musical pieces of Mozart complement the magnitude of the atrocities. There are images in this (a Hitler dummy crafted from body parts, the extermination of villages) that will forever haunt me!
