Critic Andrew Wyatt spotlights an under-the-radar gem from this year's SLIFF lineup: Fernando Trueba's coming-of-age drama Memories of My Father, based on a memoir by Colombian novelist, essayist, and cultural critic Héctor Abad Faciolince. Screening this Friday at 7:15 p.m. at the Plaza Frontenac Cinema.
"While Faciolince ('Quiquin' to his mothers and five sisters) is the protagonist, the feature is a conflicted but heartfelt love letter to the elder Héctor (Talk to Her’s Javier Cámara).
