  Hedwig & the Angry Inch reveled in psychedelic excess and for a chunk of its scanty run time did so with gusto and thrill, but its extravagance unfortunately grew taxing rather quickly. Sensory overload hurdles from the slovenly yet curt punk rock numbers in conjunction with rotoscoped illustrations of the songs’ existential essence. It’s all beautiful until it borders on offensive - Tommy’s grooming. Moreover, tonal clashes bar emotional connection, making it difficult to delineate between when the comedy is muted…

  Grief is a force of ineffability, an abstract working of a brain at odds with its perception of the world, one whose powers can neither be measured nor rendered by tongue.

  So what better a method to undertake the pursuit of its reticence than by way of abstract fantasy? And what better way to do that, then through the eyes of a child whose maturity sprouts but leaves unsoiled her pixie-like disposition?
