French-Canadians are so weird, they look like Americans, the stupidest kind of people, but the talk French, the fanciest of languages, so like, are they fancy or not?

Either way, this film is atmospheric and eerie but not much more than that; always feels like there’s something bubbling under the surface but it never quite breaks through.

    ★★

    Frustrating.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Some sweet, funny moments that don’t really make up for poor tonality and a really unappealing lead actor.

A magnetic performance from Portman that doesn’t quite make up for it’s unconvincing swing-and-miss structure. The ambiguity of the ending is powerful if inconclusive.
