    Uses dogs as a lens to observes how a city lives and treats it’s least fortunate citizens; human and animal alike. Small dramas play out on street level. Major cuteness levels. A beautiful score that doesn’t overwhelm and dictate the emotion. All in 72 minutes.

    Definitely formed an idea of adulthood for me watching this as a kid. I of course couldn’t relate, but great cinema transcends that. Now I can see how the wine obsession is just a way people fill a hole in their lives. Failure in romance. Lack of career siluccess. Struggle with aging. It’s a pre-fab personality.

    Funny how character actors will sometimes land a leading role that breaks through to commercial success and critical praise; then that slingshots them into……

    Just an absolutely rock solid thriller. I wish Eastwood have given himself over to more auteurs in the second half of his career. John Malkovich is fantastic. They’re basically in two different movies, but then meld in such a fun and thrilling way.
