“Peaking in high school is cringe anyway.”
FEMALE RAGE ON SCREEN! FEMALE RAGE ON SCREEN! FEMALE RAGE ON SCREEN!!!!!
From the opening frame doing a callback to Jawbreaker to the outfits (THE OUTFITS!!!!) to the way the vibes are reminiscent of the greatest 90s/2000s teen comedies, I loved, loved, loved everything about Do Revenge.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s projects have a consistent element that I adore. Her films offer the most complex, layered female friendships. Her success in portraying these dynamics in Something Great is expanded even further here in Do Revenge where the complexities arrive in tenfold.
The perfect type of “back to school” movie. Endlessly fun while simultaneously heartfelt and wickedly vengeful.
Additional selling points: The “Deceptacon” by Le Tigre needle drop, a lizard named Oscar Winner Olivia Colman who wears tiny dresses, and a final 35 minutes that had me exclaiming “no fucking way!!!!” several times.
