This movie is so colorful and wonderful, but it is just missing depth in its script. I can’t tell if some of it is satire or sincere.
I thought I hated this movie. I thought it was really just a lot of film student porn, but at second glance I recognized its’ subtly. Kaufman seems to be appealing to the subconscious of his audience much more than any cerebral understanding. He weaves time, images, and dialogue in a way that reminds me of films like Holy Motors and Persona. Don’t get me wrong, it’s also absolute bs, but in a fever dream fascination type way.
EDIT: Not gonna lie, I wrote this review with 20 minutes left of the movie. Now I’ve finished it and I’m removing a star because what.
