Connor Foster’s review published on Letterboxd:
Uncut Gems is the type of film that you fantasize about making in film school.
“Imagine if we got a superstar athlete and a larger-than-life artist, and had them both exist as fundamental characters in our protagonists story?!”
“Imagine if our protagonist comes from a real-life underworld that not many people are familiar with?!”
“Imagine if we cast our family and friends to play the protagonists family and friends?!”
CHECK CHECK CHECK!!
Thank god the Safdies have a keen eye and an emphatic voice. This film could’ve been a disaster, but the prodigal brothers have injected it with a mighty sense of place and purpose. Revisiting Uncut Gems thirty years from now will be a real treat.
