It's taken me close to a week to put my thoughts to paper after witnessing the world premiere of RABID in front of a packed out IMAX screen at Frightfest. The atmosphere at Frightfest is always amongst the best, it contains excited genre film fans who are looking to get the next kick out of something spooky, intense, gruesome or brilliant (sometimes all 4) and when the turn came for RABID, atmosphere was at fever pitch. The whole audience was…

Every so often a film hits you right in the nose and demands your attention, focus and wants to be the center of your everything. ONE CUT OF THE DEAD is one such film.

I don’t know anything about the behind the camera or crew work, I am simply a film fan who enjoys what is front of me, but that does not mean I can’t appreciate what goes on behind the scenes. OCOTD is like a sneak peek into…

I have always been a sucker for Northern Soul music despite never getting involved with the scene and not having an inch of dancing skill but the tunes have always stuck with me and often find their way to my monthly playlists.
The simple story works amongst learning about the history of the scene effortlessly providing an easy Saturday morning watch. A familiar cast from bit parts to starring roles also helps.

Started a new podcast this week called pick a disc where a guest joins the host to discuss a favourite album. The first week was U2 - Achtung baby, an album I know very little about outside of the obvious singles. U2 are certainly a band I have never ‘got’ and while the occasional song I have enjoyed, I have never invested enough time or interest to grasp what they are all about. Hearing anyone talk warmly or passionately about…

I love horror and I have a soft spot for musicals so when I heard about this film I was all sorts of intrigued. For some reason, I was expecting something fairly average and ended up with a gourmet meal. This is the quintessential genre Christmas film.

ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE is beautiful to look at, wonderful characters and sets and is an extreme comfort on the eye but that is only the beginning. This film is a musical so…

    Summer of 84

    ★★★★

SUMMER OF 84 is the film the 2017 version of IT should have been between the Pennywise sections. The kids are brilliant in this, not over the top or over-dramatized, they feel entirely real and mischievous. They get comedy gold lines and enough solid interactions to make you feel fully invested in their journeys.

The film itself feels like the STRANGER THINGS have moved into THE ‘BURBS with wonderful characters that haven’t felt so likeable since TURBO KID. It is…
