Colin’s review published on Letterboxd:
Let’s just say I had very high expectations (like 5 star expectations) for this one, but I didn’t love it as much as I wanted to. However, Rosemary’s Baby was a necessary evil so to speak, as it paved the way for generations of horror films.
That’s not to say I disliked everything about it, not at all. It’s certainly engrossing. Mia Farrow is great, and Ruth Gordon was crazy good. She played a seemingly sweet old lady that only seems a bit nosy and lonely on the surface, but you can tell something sinister is going on behind the scenes.
I’m not sure why this film didn’t blow me away, perhaps because I’ve seen its effects elsewhere, its style expanded upon in other films. Obviously, I respect the hell out of it for what it did for the genre and perhaps I’ll like it more on rewatch someday.
