I will never stop advocating for the idea that the ultimate medium of documentary storytelling is animation. Waltz With Bashir and Tower are both exquisite and heartbreaking pieces of filmmaking, and now we can add Flee to that list. The raw and sketch oriented style of drawing here matches perfectly with the aura that the film is emitting, brutal yet vibrant, alive yet dead. The story is one that everyone should hear and there was absolutely no better way to do it than like this.
I'm kind of just blown away, so thats all you're getting from me right now. Don't know if anything will be able to top it this year.
