Colin’s review published on Letterboxd:
A cult 80's B-movie that's big on being over the top fun and making little sense.
The cast is solid. Kurt Russell is a lot fun as Jack. A faulty hero to the point if you wonder if he counts as a hero. But his wise cracks and this notion that even Kurt has no idea what is happening most of the time works for me. Otherwise there's the great James Hong doing a great over the top performance.
The rest of the cast does a decent job, just nobody is that noteworthy.
The story makes little sense to the point I felt they just came up with stuff along the way. Having that said it is quite entertaining, particularly the climax. There is this overall sense they just wanted to do some B-movie fantasy action fun. But also with a lot of <<that happened>> moments.
There isn't as much action as I thought there would be, but it's still fun. Goofy, cheesy and a lot of jumps & flips that would even make Jackie Chan tired. The visuals are fun, I do love the production design, the comedy is funny one way or the other and the 80's soundtrack is also really cool.
A movie that isn't "good" per se but is a lot of cheesy, over the top fun. Definitely an acquired taste but I had a pretty good time with it.
