Friday the 13th Part III

Friday the 13th Part III ★★★★

By '82 Paramount had perfected the Jason engine and had a well-oiled runaway tractor-trailer of full-blown 80s cheese barreling out the wazoo. This is the one where Jason becomes a superhuman and the seeds of anti-heroism are planted slightly and unintentionally. The manboy has become a bit of a badass for the first time. Every single cliche and trope and repeated plot beat is here and to an umpteenth level of gratuitousness, but it is one of more gloriously fun entries for these lower depths of shamelessness it takes you. It's not a bad looking movie at all either. If someone asked me to pick a quintessential "80s slasher" in aesthetic, mood and content, I'd probably narrow it down to Friday the 13th Part 3 and maybe one or two others.
