Colin the dude’s review published on Letterboxd:
1. Is it just a coincidence that this feels framed like the paperback Venom starring the paperback Tom Hardy?
2. Director Leigh Whanell (James Wan protege) mines a deep cavern out of a razor-thin budget. The lighting is stylish, the locations are banal yet diverse and the special f/x feel practical and tactile. It's a little too long with a one note tone, but if Upgrade were to play out as a stepping stone to a long-awaited Dredd sequel, I would actually be totally on board with it.
