Conchobarre’s review published on Letterboxd:
I can understand why this didn’t work for some people and for a while I was on the fence, but the originality of the screenplay has won me over. It was amusing to me rather than laugh out loud funny and the serious drama was successful. As a satire the film is basically one big cautionary statement.
Cheers to all the children for their remarkable performances. I really like Jojo’s best friend Yorky who takes everything as it comes, good and bad. He’s a completely unflappable glass-half-full kid. Actually some of his lines did make me giggle and I also liked Rebel Wilson.
My biggest criticism is that Hitler could have been better. Although it is fun to think of Taika Waititi directing everyone dressed up like that. I hope he wasn’t too shouty!
