I may not get the chance to watch much lately but Buster was born on this day 125 years ago, so how could I let the day pass without watching something of his?
I went for this almost perfect two-reeler. It packs its short running time with brilliantly executed chases, gags and stunts and I enjoyed myself so much I put it up a half star from last time.

It's difficult to rate this. It is a powerful indictment of a racist America, and an incendiary riposte to BOAN, which still packs a punch 100 years after it was made. Once thought lost, there are missing scenes and back-translated intertitles. But it is a vital, although difficult, watch. There is one particular moment when my stomach turned, the hair on the back of my neck rose, and I felt it pivot into out-and-out horror.

And I just can't stop thinking about the fate of smart little Emil, who escapes on horseback and is never mentioned again.

It shows Robert Ryan's character struggling with loneliness, rage, and rank cynicism, drowning in the darker side of human nature that he comes into contact…

Why am I wasting my time watching any film that does not have Jean Arthur in it?

A scrumptious sugarpuff of a film in the best possible way: I adored it. Jean Arthur is absolute magic. She has such a talent for comedy, both physically and in her delivery, and I love everything about her. She looks so cute here, too - in her work outfits, in her stripey pyjamas, and that supercute playsuit when she's up on the roof!…
