Singin' in the Rain

Singin' in the Rain ★★★★★

All about how miraculous it is that glorious and beautiful art still manages to get made by humans all the time despite everybody (even our heroes!) being some variety of dumb vainglorious undignified fame-hungry putz. But it does it so pleasantly that it doesn't seem cynical or cruel or hopeless!

Instead it becomes a celebration of not only how fake and out of touch Hollywood is, but of the genuine human artistry that can't help but grow like weeds between the cracks. The joy of creation is an invasive species. No matter how crass and commercial the facade, the talent and passion of hundreds of faceless artists is what's actually holding it together.

Every movie about movies has been chasing this high ever since and nothing has ever gotten close.
