Duck’s review published on Letterboxd:
Unlike many horror films, Hereditary doesn’t rely on cheap jump scares and sudden loud noises to scare the audience. Hereditary instead gives you a constant feeling of dread and anxiety that only gets worse as we learn what the hell is going on which is achieved with it’s haunting music and unsettling themes and images. Even though there are a few jump scares, they’re done really well.
Even though most of the film is quite slow paced, none of it feels boring and it really makes you guess and think about how it could end.
One of the best things about Hereditary was the acting. All the actors were amazing especially Toni Collette who gives a very realistic performance.
I’d definitely recommend this even though I think it might not be for everyone. It’s a truly unsettling horror film that could definitely disturb the viewer. I loved it but I think it might take a while to recover. I could definitely see my rating go up to 5 in the future. This is probably my 2nd favourite horror film of all time right now.
Also that ending is pretty insane.
