The miserable, depressing, somewhat distant cousin to Past Lives, the Before trilogy or any other story of what ifs, fate, and chance encounters. Kieslowski presents alternate routes of what could have been if just one single moment was different, and yet these plots end up feeling only barely different from one another as if that one moment (and every other) doesn't really matter all that much, that even when it seems like you got the "good" route all it takes to ruin it is one moment equal to that which brought your fortune.
FINALLY! I have been highly anticipating this for near 6 months now, I missed it at the theater unfortunately, but thankfully HBO Max picked it up, so I watched ASAP. I am delighted to say it didn't disappoint and is easily top 3 of last year for me (number 3).
I really didn't feel the length at all and that's even with having to switch screens four times. Hamaguchi's direction is very consistent with his other film that I've seen…
