Cecil Abbott’s review published on Letterboxd:
FINALLY! I have been highly anticipating this for near 6 months now, I missed it at the theater unfortunately, but thankfully HBO Max picked it up, so I watched ASAP. I am delighted to say it didn't disappoint and is easily top 3 of last year for me (number 3).
I really didn't feel the length at all and that's even with having to switch screens four times. Hamaguchi's direction is very consistent with his other film that I've seen Asako 1 and 2, he has a sort of cold and distant style that slowly thaws as the film goes on and ends in incredible catharsis.
I am definitely rooting for this at the Oscars.
