Nomadland ★★★★½

See you down the road.

Nomadland is the film we’ll remember from 2020. From all the rancorous discourse over titans like Mank and Tenet, from the industry shifting streaming releases of Mulan and Wonder Woman, this is the one. Chloé Zhao launches herself into the upper stratosphere of American artists with a stunning achievement. It’s a film for the weary and the broken, with enough empathy to fill a million hearts.

And McDormand. God, what an actress. Her facial expressions contain a lifetime of loss and pain, and she is the heart of Nomadland. It’s a film I’ll hold close in my heart for the rest of this year - and for much longer than that.
