The Kindergarten Teacher ★★★½

Just when you thought Hereditary had the prize for “Most Disturbing Film of the Year” locked down, here comes The Kindergarten Teacher. An intriguing study into what happens when artists (especially women artists) are shut out and ignored, and showcases a performance from Maggie Gyllenhaal that gradually builds from friendly to outright frightening over the course of the film. She’s mesmerizing in the role, and her complete commitment to Lisa’s decreasing sanity makes this a compelling watch.
