Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse ★★★★★

"I never thought I'd be able to do any of this stuff, but I can. Anyone can wear the mask. You could wear the mask. If you didn’t know that before, I hope you do now. Because I’m Spider-Man. And I’m not the only one. Not by a long shot."

It's so hard to put how I feel about this film in words because I have far too many, but all I can say right now is that it means so much to me. I watched it for the first time since it left theaters and revisiting it reminded me of why I love movies in the first place. It also reminded me that just existing after everything you've been through makes you a hero. I may not have been bitten by a radioactive spider, but I did make it to 24 and for me, that's the biggest accomplishment. Not only this movie came out at the perfect time in my life, so many amazing things have happened in the timeline between the first time I watched this and now: I graduated from community college, I decided to take a break from Twitter (a site that has been responsible for so much of my anxiety), I'm starting work on my B.A. next month, and I learned not to set myself on fire to keep others warm. I feel weird making this review so personal, but if the quote above doesn't prove the point I'm attempting to make, I don't know what will.

Even if you're not shooting lasers out of your eyes or don't possess super strength, you're a hero all on your own just by waking up in the morning. Never let anyone tell you that you can't accomplish your goals or that your accomplishments are "dumb" because you too can wear the mask. Like Miles Morales says in this film, no matter how many times life has hit me, I've gotten back up. I always have and I continue on doing so. Once again, a sincere thank you to the entire cast and crew for bringing this to life. I couldn't be more grateful for its existence.
