Loved this film as a kid, but hadn’t seen it in over 20 years. Learning that it was directed by Mark Dindal of The Emperor’s New Groove (another childhood favorite) prompted this rewatch, and, uh, wow. This thing is kind of amazing?

The political allegories on racism in Hollywood, the beautifully zany animation that pays homage to Chuck Jones, the choreography by Gene Kelly, the non-stop visual gags accompanied by whip-smart dialogue… hell, even the musical numbers are wonderful. (Particularly Darla Dimple’s, whose song alone defines her as one of the most hysterically demented, hand-drawn antagonists I’ve seen.)

    Just an utter delight.
