    "Existence can’t be without reason"

so beautiful. i loved how personal the cinematography was along with the handheld footage, & editing. a beautiful and powerful film in homage of the tortured, and loved vincent van gogh. willem dafoe's performance breaks my heart with how well he portrays mental illness.

the french title for this film à ma soeur! ('for my sister!' in english) seems like a more appropriate title than the english title 'fat girl', in my opinion. it changes the whole meaning of the film in a weird way?

this film is so shocking and disturbing, it's supposed to make you uncomfortable because it's real and happens in daily life. my jaw dropped at the end, insanely dark.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

easily one of my favourite fassbinder films, fox (played as fassbinder himself) has his life compromised by money and slowly deteriorates mentally. fox is surrounded by people who aren't in his prime interest which leads to a devastating ending.

the ending when fox OD's and the kids are looting his corpse, fucking insane. people kept taking from him even when he died, so depressing.

gregg araki makes me want to yell at the sky. he captures the psychological trauma and dark past of these tortured kids so well. such a sad disturbing film. that last scene makes you feel cold, makes it feel like you really hit the end of the road.

btw this + totally f***ed up (1993) & the living end (1992) are available on the criterion channel right now.

"I don’t like myself sometimes, can you help me?"

it's insane how much creative freedom paul thomas anderson had with this film. barry egan's (adam sandler) character is so awkward and weird you can physically feel it, even relate to it. a really big anxiety trip. anxiety trip make brain go brrrrrrrrrr.
