    Absolutely 5-star pastiche filmmaking - the sets, costumes, music, editing, cinematography, acting, action scenes etc. perfectly, effortlessly evoke the iconography and feel of the 60's Eurospy genre, but as a comedy it's just not... funny? There's a handful of cute running gags and Dujardin's facial expressions (especially his eyebrows) are hilarious, but the script is just barren - limp stabs at absurdity and cringe comedy (there's an awful, extended 'explaining the bad pun' scene fairly early on that puts a…

    Genuinely not sure what people see in this, beyond the soundtrack, the high production values and the, like, three good episodes. To be fair, those three episodes, 'Asteroid Blues', 'The Ballad of Fallen Angels', and 'Pierrot Le Fou', are well-crafted, cleverly stylised little vignettes, each deserving of a place in the Anime Hall of Fame.

    But jeez, the rest of the series does not live up to those episodes, nor do justice to the soundtrack. There are some fun episodes…

    The first three episodes are genuinely fun, well-made homages, cleverly replicating the tone of the shows they cover, as well as the visuals (with some minor hiccups here and there - the exact nature of special effects, whether they're meant to be charmingly DIY or just regular Marvel CGI seemed to be a bit underthought to me). They even get the eerie 'something is not right' tone down fairly well, even if it's not a bit subtle.
