Stylistically I loved this. Godard had such a knack for making something so avant-garde feel so stylish and accessible in look. Its sleek, its chic, its sexy.

It being propaganda was always apparent, but damn I hadnt realized how potent. Whole thing is just a quippy emotional appeal against neutrality, bogart its vehicle. Setting up a true love trope just to say fuck nazis more, giving most, american or not, someone to see themselves in. Its all very effective.

Amazing movie. Its like a constant hit of sleaziness and heart, one minute you're charmed to death and the next disgusted by the lead, the business, the city. The magic is how little it feels "set up." like you're just a floating eye, hovering the room, not a camera with set position and lighting and view. Sometimes you can barely see what the hells going on, sometimes barely hear, but it works so well. I felt there, in a way I rarely do. There are some magical moments. Made a new friend at this showing too :) Go to movies alone, its fun!
