LA BIENNALE DI VENEZIA 75 — FILM #6
“when women tell you the truth, you don’t pity them! you tell them they’re delusions!”
BITIIITCUJEJCHBTIFHTBCJUHRHDHE BITCH BIIITCH BITC BUT BITCHCHFH BITCHHB !!!! FUKC !!!!!!!!!!! HOLY FUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT. WAS A FUCKING FILM. THAT WAS INCREDIBLE. HOLY FUCK.
RUN SUSPIRIA THEIR MOTHERFUCKING OSCAR NOMINATIONS. IM TALKING PICTURE, DIRECTOR, FILM EDITING, CINEMATOGRAPHY, SOUND EDITING, SOUND MIXING, ACTRESS FOR DAKOTA JOHNSON, SUPPORTING ACTRESS FOR TILDA SWINTON, ALL OF IT. GIVE IT TO THEM ALL.
I HAVE NO FUCKING WORDS FOR HOW MUCH OF A FUCKING EXPERIENCE THAT WAS. IT MAY HAVE BEEN 2 1/2 HOURS LONG BUT I NEVER WANTED IT TO END.
i reluctantly watched the original Suspiria almost two years ago in between the fingers of my hand covering my eyes. as i’ve mentioned on here, i had only recently been accustomed to watching the horror genre, but before oct 2017, anything that had the genre merely associated had me put off instantly. had i not been forced to watch the original Suspiria by the ppl who forced me, i would’ve never watched it. but despite this new film being a supposed remake, it is an entirely original, different film.
y’all, i hated dakota johnson. like if you asked me if i liked dakota johnson as an actress last week i wouldve laughed in your face. it all started bc i was an unashamed big fan of the fifty shades books (story wise !!! not literary wise. el james is the most illiterate author of our time), and i hated her in the film adaptations. but in general, i always found her acting to be the same, so emotionless and bland and monotone. only cast in big things due to hollywood nepotism. but bitch !!! i take it all back !!!!! she just needed to be cast in the right film, bc BITCH it WORKED here !!!!!!! the seemingly blandness and emotionless performance she’s ever so talented in giving works perfectly in such a film like this, make her do more. i realize this is a backhanded compliment but i’m dead serious when i say i love her now. the chemistry between susie and madame blanc oooooooo lord i FELT that. her performance during those last thirty minutes ??? BITCH, i was TREMBLING !!!!!!
as expected, the camerawork and the cinematography was just glorious. especially in those dream sequences. and the SOUND!!!! all the sounds are still ringing through my brain !!!! the CHILLS !!!!! and the Editing during those DANCE sequences, esp w those MIRRORS, oh god, my eyes don’t deserve to feast on such delicious CINEMA. GOD !!!! this whole film was the definition of pure cinematic EXCELLENCE !!!!!
what i especially liked abt this film is the end. they ended w an epilogue instead of the heightened resolute point as which i would expect. and being the sappy romance loving bitch that i am, i can’t believe it ended that way on that note. it was actually so sweet i couldn’t believe it. i cried.
[[[ EDIT: my friend hates horror films and knew she wouldn’t be watching this so i retold to her the ending and sobbed as i did, like actually honest to god sobbed my eyes out. who knew some of the most romantic, heartbreaking shit this year would come from fucking Suspiria. ]]]
i don’t know abt the bad reviews. idk why ppl are comparing this to Mother! (if anything this is more like Hereditary). idk why ppl walked out in earlier screenings. i’m guessing they were old bc after the film when i was freaking out, the old lady next to me asked me why since she thought it was horrible. lmfao. but this film was just so so so so so so so fucking incredible. it doesn’t deserve to be compared to anything. not even the original. it’s just. so fucking glorious in itself. god. i love it so much. i can watch this over and over again. and that’s something i wouldn’t expect from myself.
real talk though, i’m glad i don’t have a place to stay tonight anymore bc i don’t think i’d be able to sleep if i think abt some of the scenes, especially not in some dark airbnb hostel.
ahhhh i feel like i have so much else to say but my thoughts are so scattered i’ll just edit and add whatever else i think abt on here later.
this film. it’s beautiful! it’s beautiful! it’s beautiful!
“yes, keep dancing! it’s beautiful! it’s beautiful! it’s beautiful!”
i know he didn’t write either film but luca guadagnino rlly loves repetitive sentences that make me cry huh.
ps: stay til the credits end for a surprise. not really a surprise but. actually not really anything but. i love it. just stay.
ps2: someone plz tell me where i can buy all of sara and susie’s outfits THANKS.
“death to any other mother!”
