The loosely connected 'inbred cannibals in the woods' series took a complete nosedive👎 and needed something to reinvigorate the title. This takes the basic premise and spins it in a completely different direction.
Took everything back to the forest (the last 3 movies weren't even close), characters seemed real enough, had decent gore effects and I found it thrilling till the very end. And the ending after the ending. Huge sigh of relief for not pulling a Funny Games (because f*ck that movie).
Got way more out of it with my headphones at night on my big screen, but wouldn't have appreciated it as much had I not been completely immersed. Great way to close off the series (assuming this will be the last one).
