The Northman

The Northman ★★★★

The highly anticipated fantasy action drama epic from Robert Eggers.

Young prince Amleth witnesses the brutal murder of his father and kidnapping of his mother at the hands of his uncle. Some 2 decades later now a savage Viking he is reminded of his vow to avenge his father and save his mother.

It of course looks amazing, from the picturesque vast landscapes to the brutal combat scenes to the costume design and everything else in-between... it's all pretty flawless.
Boasting a hugely impressive cast including the likes of Alexander Skarsgård, Willem Dafoe, Ethan Hawke, Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy and Bjork it's virtually guaranteed success straight off the bat, excellent performances all round of course.

For such a simple revenge story some will say that it's overlong or dragged out with a runtime of 137 minutes (129 minus the credits). That said I must say I was never bored nor did I feel there was unnecessary filler anywhere either.
Not perfect but a very good film indeed.
