This has been an underdog of the series for me and I think after watching it again, I have to say that it's climbed up the ladder. I like how it has it's own contained style and theme which, although not too dissimilar from Chris Columbus' first instalment in the serious, brought a bit more darkness, less cheese and a captivating serpent-like theme from the sound design, lighting and colouring. I like it when each of the films can be remembered for their own theme and individual story; they were books after all. I think sometimes a sense of episodic-ness can be left behind but this one shines in terms of this. Whether it moves the overall plot forward simultaneously, I would have to say no.
