    My grandparents took me to see this in the cinema (after I insisted this was what I wanted to see) and I have a very clear memory of being so freaked out during the assassination scene that I cried until they took me out and we went in to another screen to watch something else.

    I just did the maths and I would have been SIX YEARS OLD. What was anyone thinking? Me included. A slow Star Trek movie that quotes Shakespeare and is a metaphor for the end of the cold war? 

    A joy to revisit this and find that it rules so hard.

    Watched at a sold out BFI screening on a Saturday night. Once the credits finished and lights came up there was a smattering of applause. 
    A guy in the row behind scoffed. “No one can hear you, why are you clapping”.
    A real “oh what a bunch of morons” kind of response. 
    If people want to clap, let them clap. Sweet Jesus. There’s not much left in this world to feel hopeful about and if watching a woman’s life unravel…
