Watching this for the first time in well over a decade, I was struck by how remarkably well it has aged. A period piece set in 1987 that came out in 1995, SAFE has only grown more on-point over time, and it serves as a fascinating introduction to Julianne Moore, displaying all the qualities that have made her one of our greatest living actors in an incredible performance. I have no doubt that in another 30 years or so, this will be universally regarded as not just one of the best films of the 90s, but one of the best films of all time.

A classical wartime melodrama fused with a hard-hitting disaster flick, this is epic filmmaking in every way. Pure entertainment from start to finish!
