Danielle’s review published on Letterboxd:
Wow. Wow. Wow. I am emotionally SCARRED. Let me start of by saying that Mamma Mia! is one of my favourite films on the fucking planet and I've seen it about 50 times and still listen to the songs so so much. You can say that the anticipation was high as fuck for this one.
And boy did I cry. It was just soooo sad! The first film is such a feel good film and brought me so much joy while I cried through this one. I went to see it with my mum and sister and during I've Been Waiting For You we were all sobbing like crazy in the cinema.
It had so many winks to the original and I just can't wait to see it all again and enjoy the fuck out of it. The songs were amazing and I'm so happy they used mostly new ones instead of reusing the classics 27 times. Angel Eyes is the funniest sequence ever and Christine Baranski and Julie Walters are such legends in these characters.
Big shoutout to Amanda Seyfried as well for carrying this film on her back alongside Lily James who also did an amazing job. All the younger versions were casted so well. Jeremy Irvine was so amazing and nailed the way Pierce Brosnan speaks so much! And Josh Dylan damn fuck what a man! I saw this film one day after I met the cast several times during their promo tour in London so it just all means a lot and I can't stop crying?
And that moment when Pierce mumbled S.O.S. MAN I FUCKING FELT THAT! When he sang "When you're gone..." oh boi you could scrap me of the fucking floor.
AND THE END SEQUENCE! ALL THE CHARACTERS TOGETHER I WAS DEAD! Literally this review is the most fangirly one I've ever put on Letterboxd but Mamma Mia! means so much to me and to see all the characters again and more songs by the legendary and iconic Abba, it makes me so so happy. Abba's songs are honestly a gift to the world, tunes I grew up with. I am blessed they made this sequel. It doesn't even matter that it was the opposite of the first one in style, and the original just can't be topped but I am definitely going to watch this film another extra 3 times in the cinema so I can chill while watching it and not freak out by every new scene. W-o-w.
