Daniel’s review published on Letterboxd:
Avengers threw my final sprint of the April hunt right out the window, but I had to log one last film. And what a film to end on..
This rating is complete bullshit btw, but I don't know what to do here.
I have no idea what I just watched. This is one of those movies that make me go; "am I dumb?". Should I be tipping my hat, raising a glass of whiskey and going: "I get it.", right now? Well, reading some other reviews on here I luckily came to the realisation that I'm not necessarily dumb, I'm just not a Kaufman.
This film seems to be about nothing and everything at the same time, and it even makes some meta comments about that relating to the play the main character is putting on in the movie. From birth to death, life itself, relationships, parenthood, sexuality, art vs real life, mental illness - I mean, you could probably analyze it a thousand different ways.
I didn't read it any specific way though, and probably have to view it a second, third or eleventh time to even attempt it. My greatest takeaway is:
Philip Seymour Hoffman
Fuck, what a loss that was.
I watched this as part of Scavenger Hunt #49, found here: boxd.it/2O2YQ
Task 3: Go to a director for (Anomalisa) and find another movie from (Charlie Kaufman).
