You explore a new city with a friend you just made - maybe 'friend' is taking it too far since you've just met and in less than ideal circumstances, but for the moment it seems that you will be friends. You walk through cobbled streets, admire paintings, take in ancient sculptures, eat bread and cheese, drink wine from a box. You feel alive. You share tequila straight from the bottle. You share a cigarette even though you don't really smoke,…

"There's no future in Georgian dance. Do you want to end up like me?"

Fuck this was beautiful. Insane chemistry and sexual tension between the two leads:

    "What?"
"Nothing. Gotta take a piss". That's how they get you - now you're thinking about his dick.

(I point this moment out because it's so rare that a film seems to capture so exactly something from my own experience that it feels personal, like a shared secret.)

If I made you feel second best
I'm so sorry, I was blind

Magical. Interesting that Stephen King is referenced, as the story here really reminded me of one of his haunted short stories or novellas.

Faultless work from Andrew Scott and Claire Foy. Spare script with so much "breathing room" - the film feels alive.

The diner scene is one of the most powerful moments I've seen in a film in years.

"You know... You just sit there doing nothing... Propping up the entire world."

A beautiful film that's first and foremost about love, and the complex moral and emotional and human issues it explores second. Colin Firth's best performance to date, and Stanley Tucci natural and easy and the perfect counterpoint to all the inner, suppressed feelings and emotions. The screenplay breathes life. Heartfelt, warm, thoughtful, quietly stunning.

    "Let me go with you."

"This is when it all starts"

Opening with an outstanding orgiastic orgy in the basement of a gay club in Paris, this film then suddenly but naturally becomes something else entirely, as Hugo and Theo, who fucked, yes, and who have some properly electric chemistry, get to know each other before a casual confession results in a visit to a hospital. This section is really something, as we watch in scary and utterly authentic detail what a visit like this…
