You explore a new city with a friend you just made - maybe 'friend' is taking it too far since you've just met and in less than ideal circumstances, but for the moment it seems that you will be friends. You walk through cobbled streets, admire paintings, take in ancient sculptures, eat bread and cheese, drink wine from a box. You feel alive. You share tequila straight from the bottle. You share a cigarette even though you don't really smoke,…

"There's no future in Georgian dance. Do you want to end up like me?"

Fuck this was beautiful. Insane chemistry and sexual tension between the two leads:

    "What?"
"Nothing. Gotta take a piss". That's how they get you - now you're thinking about his dick.

Everytime I watch this film I love it just a little bit more.

"You know... You just sit there doing nothing... Propping up the entire world."

A beautiful film that's first and foremost about love, and the complex moral and emotional and human issues it explores second. Colin Firth's best performance to date, and Stanley Tucci natural and easy and the perfect counterpoint to all the inner, suppressed feelings and emotions. The screenplay breathes life. Heartfelt, warm, thoughtful, quietly stunning.

    "Let me go with you."

"what kind of man would I be, if I didn't help my mother?"

Might yet edge up to my favourite film of the year - this was the most surprising film I've seen, in that I had no idea on the content/story (I've not read the book) and the (masterful) trailer gave near nothing away. My thoughts

    Tension
    Romantic tension
    Dramatic tension
    Character tension
    Sexual tension
    TENSION

It's a gorgeously slow build film but I was GRIPPED throughout, with stunning…
