Nerve shredding prison break drama that feels so real and vivid - the painstaking shots of the inmates filing down a hinge or smashing through concrete make it feel like it's all being done for real. There's a scene involving plumbers fixing a sink and when I was watching I didn't understand why it was included, and then when the plumbers are punished by the inmates for stealing some cigarettes as a 'tip' it made sense. These are criminals. You question why you're rooting for them. It's a duality that encompasses the whole film, through to a devastating finale.
Expertly directed, compulsive viewing.
