“You should use stale bread for French toast”
Pig features a humorous script that touches on multiple interesting themes in an intelligent way without ever diving deep enough to make an impact. Nicolas Cage is good, and his performance works as a subversion of expectations, but that only gets you so far, and in a way he’s wasted here. Instead of Cage its Alex Wolff who steals the show, and between this, Old, and Hereditary it would appear he’s one to keep an eye on. Pig functions well as an ode to the power of food, especially food as gesture and the power of a good meal, but not much else.
