Oliver Matheson’s review published on Letterboxd:
Am I the best brother in the world? Who can say...but probably. I had little to no interest in watching this, but when I found out that it is my 13 year old brother's favorite film it was immediately added to the ole watchlist. I feel your pain Diana Morales, what I did for love... What can I say, a brother watches his brother's favorite movies, right postpuke?
And it was fine. I'm biased here, I'm a Tobey Maguire spider-man for lyfe, and this new iteration's relatiance on Iron Man really gets under my skin. I think that was a smart way to bring Spidey into the MCU, but they should have let him branch out on his own, and yet this film is more about Spider-Man becoming the new Iron Man than Spider Man. Having the villain's motivations stem from Iron Man once again is simply uninspired, and really takes this down a notch.
This is your cookie cutter Marvel film to a tee, but that means it is still fun and I enjoyed watching it throughout. It made folding clothes quite enjoyable.
