"I won't see a third bomb dropped on the country of my grandmother, who lived through it."
Shin Godzilla is Toho's first full reboot of the Godzilla franchise, and it completely overthrows both American remakes and all the countless Japanese instalments in between.
The film is a combination of everything that makes both a good film and good Godzilla film. Enough Godzilla to keep it interesting, whilst boasting fantastic acting, sound, score and cinematography that is just pleasing on all the human senses.
Probably hasn't been mentioned before, but the cinematography and pacing is completely bonkers for a Godzilla film; some camera angles remind me of the stuff Wes Anderson does, which is crazy because again, this is a kaiju film.
The best Godzilla remake and probably the best Godzilla film. I hope Toho continue the franchise and show America how to properly make a Godzilla film.
