I didn't expect The Evil Dead to be quite the 'horror with a comedic element' that it is, and I definitely didn't expect The Evil Dead 2 to be the horror-comedy that it was. And while I still really enjoyed both of those, I went into Army of Darkness with the right expectations. It's definitely a comedy with a horror element.
And it's hysterical.
Raimi does some really creative stuff here, both in content and direction, the effects (including the silly skeletons) are still surprisingly pretty good, Bruce comes into fully realised Ash here, and did I mention it's hysterical? There are so many great lines and brilliantly silly moments that kept me beaming from ear to ear.
I can't wait to revisit this whole trilogy, as I don't think I enjoyed it as much as I could have the first time around. But it's definitely fun and unique enough to be worthy of it's cult status.
