"R.I.P. to that cow." - My ten-year-old cousin after he spent the entire frightening movie explaining to me how this related to the first two video games, when to close my eyes, and to warn me when the tongue monster was coming. I had a great time.
Pros: Matthew Goode and his good arms.
Cons: 2004 and its sense of progressive sexism. That dude from Entourage’s entire role in this movie is to sexually harass a fellow agent until she succumbs. And when she stands up for herself, he gives her the silent treatment until she apologizes.
None of these early 2000s movies age well in gender relations.
All I’ve been doing this quarantine has been listening to music and learning music and sharing music and silence has always scared me. I think the way this film so subtlety shows how that affects you, in frustration and itching and action and feeling wrong in your own space was viscerally compelling. It made the loss and the acceptance of that loss understandable. I loved it.
