The MCU has been reinvigorated by its two most recent releases, Thor: Ragnarok, and the box office colossus Black Panther. Black Panther has been receiving almost universal praise from every corner, but Thor's return with his third stand alone film was a revelation following the less than impressive Dark World. Upping the comedy factor worked a treat, in a similar vein to Guardians of the Galaxy when it arrived on the scene back in 2014, and with Chris Hemsworth bulking up Hugh Jackman style to don the cape of the Norse deity in his 5th outing, there's action galore and an eclectic cast gathered to bring director Taiki Waititi's vision to fruition. It's a stunning return to form for the big guy, minus his glorious flowing blonde locks for once, and he's got help at every turn. Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, and Karl Urban all join the returning Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, and Tom Hiddleston, and we also get Mark Ruffalo bringing our favourite green angry guy to proceedings, but Hemsworth is terrific here sound-tracked by Led Zeppelin, who wrote more than a couple of good tunes during their career. The plot has Thor attempting to escape from an alien planet and try to save Asgard from his older sister Hela who's been released from her prison, and prevent Ragnarok, the destruction of Asgard. It is a funny film, one-liners dotted everywhere, but this is still an MCU film, and the budget has been spent wisely for once. Colourful, imaginative, and as entertaining a film as I've seen this year, this will get rewatch after rewatch, because I loved it.
